Interlibrary Loans

If an item you need isn’t held by the Library, or available via Discovery, you can request it from other Libraries by using the Interlibrary Loan service All library users may access the service for free, but limitations are in place for different levels of student

Undergraduates are entitled to 5 requests per year, taught post-graduates 15 and research postgraduates have no restrictions Quotas may be increased at the discretion of the subject Faculty Librarian Requests are made via the online request form You may see a link to the form in Discovery, or you can fill in a blank online form on our website Requests are usually processed within 1 working day and supplied within a week

Obscure items, or those in high-demand, may take significantly longer Requests can be supplied in a variety of ways Subject to availability, you may request a whole book which will be sent from another library or a journal article or a book extract, which will usually be sent electronically For whole books, the loan period varies depending on which library lends us the item Renewal may not be possible, and the lending library may only allow consultation in our library, so it is not guaranteed that you will be able to take the book away with you

Fines of £100 per day will be charged on books that are returned late You can keep prints of articles and chapters indefinitely, but please note that documents delivered electronically must be printed off or saved within 30 days Visit portac
